NW Regional System of Care Sub-Region will meet this Fri. March 15th at the Clarence Brown Conference Center. NEWSWORTHY…
(new) You are invited to attend a prescreening of “Decisions”- The newest video made by Bartow County EMS and the Coalition to Prevent the Misuse of Alcohol. The prescreening will be Tuesday, March 12th @ 7:00 pm @ Cartersville High School Auditorium. The video will be presented to high school juniors and seniors the week of prom to raise awareness of driving under the influence. Prescreening is open to all adults; no current high school students please. We want them to get the full effect of the entire presentation during their school assembly! (new) The Bartow County Health Department, in partnership with Shorter University School of Nursing is accessing residents in North Georgia regarding the LakePoint Sporting Community & Town Center Development. The Health Impact Assessment (HIA) survey will help to understand what impacts healthy living and how to advocate for improving better options in their area. From the information gathered, better decisions can be made that minimize risks and capitalize on opportunities to improve lifestyles, both short and long term. (new) The Respect Institute Graduation Ceremony will be held Thursday, March 14th @10:30 am at the Bartow Civic Center. Everyone is encouraged to attend. The RESPECT Institute is a program designed to provide the skills and coaching necessary for Certified Peer Specialist to be able to construct and customize their personal stories so they can be delivered in diverse venues, like legislative meetings, employee orientations, university classrooms, civic meetings, and continuing education programs. The 2013 Duck Derby season kicks off March 21 @ 5 p.m. at the City Loft in downtown Cartersville. New teams are encouraged to join! Terry Reid Kia and Hyundai, is also sponsoring the 3rd Annual Funds for Your Future competition. High school seniors can compete for valuable college scholarships by raising money through duck sales (adoptions) for the 2013 Duck Derby. The twelfth annual Duck Derby is May 18 at the Riverside Day Use Area. For more information contact Advocates @ 770-387-1143.

Sam Jones UMC will hold “Making Decisions Now for Later”, an End of Life Educational Series, which will include the following workshops: Wed. April 10th -Hospice-what is it? What happens with hospice?; Wed. April 17th- Funeral Planning, writing an obituary, the National Cemetery for Veterans, and organ donation; Wed. April 24th – Legal aspects and financial aspects associated with the end of life; Wed. May 1st – The spiritual aspect of the end of life. All seminars are free and start at 6:00 pm. Keep Bartow Beautiful
(several new dates) Keep Bartow Beautiful will be celebrating the Great American Cleanup this spring. Clean-up Projects include April 13: Anheuser-Busch employees will be joined by local citizens to clean Etowah River; April 19: Adairsville High School ROTC and Environmental Science students will participate in the cleanup of Old Highway 41; April 20: Ray Southern Memorial Cleanup/Atco Community Day, City if Emerson Cleanup Saturday, and Taylorsville Community Cleanup (for more information call 770-387-6544); April 27: Gene Thacker Memorial Cleanup; May will conclude with Georgia Highlands Community Garden Project. The ATCO Clean-up & Neighborhood Day will be Saturday, April 20, 2013 @ 11:00 am. This event is a part of national Great American Clean-up and Earth Day and will be the 3rd year ATCO Community is participating. Locally, the City of Cartersville and Keep Bartow Beautiful is sponsoring the first Neighborhood Day, which will include food, festivities and community resources. Richard will be our guest speaker at the March Collaborative Meeting.

Lookout Mtn CME and the Adolescent & Youth Development Program of Northwest GA Public Health have partnered to present a free workshop on engaging and empowering youth voice in our programs. Youth As Partners in Systems of Care will be March 20 from 9-2 in Rome at the Floyd County Health Department and April 19th at Dalton State College. The deadline is this Friday to register. The Alzheimer’s Association of Georgia Chapter will host the Annual Caregiver Conference will be held in Calhoun, Tuesday March 26, 2013 from 8:30-4:00.
