(new) MUST Ministries
Through their Alliance with OSHA and partnership with Goodwill of North Georgia, MUST Ministries is providing a 10-Hour General Industry certification and 4 hour Forklift Safety Training at no charge. Participants who score a 70 or above on the final test will also receive a pair of safety shoes required to work in most manufacturing and warehousing operations. To participate, you must complete a registration form, attend a 4 hour class focusing on skills for finding and returning to work, provide a picture ID and social security card, and take a 10 minute interest inventory. The 4 hour Back to Work class will be held in Cartersville at Goodwill of North Georgia on January 6 and 13 (10am-2pm) or you can attend at any MUST Ministries office. The Annual New Job Fair Recruitment Event for employers across all North Georgia will be held Wednesday, January 15, 2014 @ the Cartersville Goodwill Career Center from 10:00 am until 12:30 pm. Goodwill will be hosting this large event and anticipate a large number of job seekers to attend.
There is space available for up to 18 employers/agencies. Participating employers will be provided one six foot table along with two chairs and lunch will be served following the Job Fair. Participants are welcome to bring supplemental signage, displays, application material, supplies, and other items you may require at your station.
Volunteers will be on hand to assist you as needed and candidates with their resume and online application. The Library is looking for volunteers to help with PreK Book Buddies. The program is designed to promote pre-literacy skills and inspire PreK-aged children through books. At
each monthly meeting, the PreK Buddies will be read to by a teen volunteer, or Big Buddy.
Each PreK Buddy will also receive a book of their choice to take home each time they
attend. The initial program will feature four sessions at the Cartersville library on the last
Thursday at each month, January 30th, February 27th, March 27th and April
24th from 4:30 – 5:30 p.m. This is a collaborative partnership with both the Cartersville City
and Bartow County School systems through an Early Childhood grant from Target. For

The Mental Health & Addictive Disease Work Group of Bartow Collaborative and Bartow Emotional Health Resources’ Community Education & Advocacy Work Group will be hosting a Behavioral Health Stakeholder Summit & Advocacy Training tomorrow, December 17th at the Goodwill Career Center in Cartersville. From 11am to 1pm, Highland Rivers Health will be guiding community partners through a discussion regarding the current state of behavioral health and challenges and barriers that exist in Bartow County. The group will set priorities for the next year. Decision maker, community leaders, stakeholders and advocate groups who have a vested interest in persons with mental illness, addictions or developmental disabilities should attend. From 12 noon to 1pm, Kathleen Varda, Director of Strategy and Business Development at Highland Rivers Health, will offer an Advocacy Training to help participants prepare for the upcoming session that begins in January. As a past adjunct professor for Georgia State University, Ms. Varda has taught both grant writing and social welfare policy in the School of Social Work within the Andrew Young School of Policy Studies. There will be a PIN DOWN HOMELESS DUAL wrestling match tomorrow, Tuesday, Dec. 17th @ 6:00 pm at Woodland High School. 100% of the proceeds will go to help the Bartow County Schools Homeless Program. Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for students. Bartow Community Christmas Luncheon The 5th Annual Community Christmas Luncheon is set for Saturday, December 21 at the First Presbyterian Church of Cartersville. The 2013 Jingle Jog will be this Thursday, December 5th. This 1.4 mile race will take you right down Main Street, following the same route as the Cartersville Christmas parade. The tournament is used as a fund raiser for our Camp Bartow Scholarship Program for young people in our county, as well as a fund raiser for Bartow Health Access, a 501c3 charitable health care clinic. At the tournament, every player will receive a gift bag full of goodies and a t-shirt. The team needs help getting the word out to the people who would benefit from a great holiday meal and some Christmas music. If you would like to volunteer, shifts are from 10:00 – 12:00, 12:00 – 2:00 and clean up from 2:00 – 3:30. Mandated Reporting of Child Abuse in Georgia: Your role in recognizing and responding
will be offered Dec. 10th from 1:00 – 2:30 pm. The Webinar, presented by Stephanie V.
Blank Center for Safe & Healthy Children at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, will focus on
the basics of mandatory reporting laws of child abuse in Georgia, types of abuse that are
covered under the GA Statute regarding mandated reporting, and how to recognize the
signs that these types of abuse may be occurring, and policies and procedures related to
