Bartow Collaborative will meet this Friday, January 24 @ First Presbyterian Church on Main Street in Cartersville. This month we’ll here from Heather Barnes with Family Intervention Specialist and have a chance to provide input into upcoming trainings, programs, and activities! Last week the General Assembly convened for the 2014 Legislative Session, and was in session for five legislative days. Weekly Updates from Voices for Children will be available to review on Highlights of the week January 13-17th can be found under the Weekly Update January 20. Most of the updates will reflect child welfare issues.

LakePoint Sports Complex
The Valentine’s Day Wine and Chocolate Half Marathon, 10k & 5k will be held Saturday, February 15, 2014 @ The LakePoint Sports Complex – 755 Highway 293. Emerson, GA 30137. The race will be a Ladies Only Half Marathon/10K/5K Run or Walk. Mom and Kids are welcome (sons up to age 17 allowed to run with Mom or Grandmother). Dads are welcome to Cheer On! Powerful Tools for Caregivers, sponsored by NW Ga. Area Agency on Aging is a highly effective educational program which helps family caregivers of adults build the skills they need to take better care of themselves as they provide care for others. A two day training prepares and licenses class leaders to successfully teach the six-week Powerful Tools for Caregivers series. The next Class Leader Training is scheduled for January 29 and 30, 2014 in Dalton at the Gaston Community Center. Media, Pop Culture & Teen Dating Violence – Understanding TDV & current
technologies will be held February 5, 2014 @ 2:00p.m. The webinar is 1 hour and 15
minutes and includes Amber McKeen, Child Abuse Prevention Trainer, Kara Klein, Child
Life Specialist and Stephanie V. Blank Center for Safe and Healthy Children, Children’s
Healthcare of Atlanta. This presentation is offered with the understanding that participants
already have a basic understanding of current technology and social media, such as
Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc. and cell phone or tablet functions or applications (apps)

(new) A Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) is a ready group of organized
and trained volunteer disaster workers that operate at the neighborhood level. They are
prepared to be self-sustaining for five days following a large disaster. The CERT Program
prepares volunteers with 20 hours of classroom and hands-on training. The training is
provided by volunteer “subject matter” experts such as firefighters, EMTs, and building
safety personnel. The next basic course scheduled for Bartow County will be Saturday
Feb. 8th 8:00 – 5:00 (classroom), Sunday Feb. 9th 8:00 – 5:00 (classroom), and
Saturday Feb. 15th 10:00 – 2:00 (simulation exercise). *All three dates required to equal

roles and responsibilities, and performance of duties. Sharing Leadership: The Board-
Staff Partnership Training will be held February 25, 2014 @ the Mansour Center in
Marietta. The training will help participants identify their roadblocks to success and
solutions for implementation through individual reflections, small group exercises, and whole group discussions. The cost is $80 for a CEO and Board or Committee Chair from the same nonprofit, $50 for each additional Board Member attending from that same nonprofit, and $65 for each person attending individually from a nonprofit agency.
