The 2014 National Rx Drug Abuse Summit will be held on April 22 – 24, 2014 at Atlanta
Marriott Marquis. The Summit will focus on ways we can make an impact in the fight against
prescription drug abuse. The Summit is the largest national collaboration of professionals
from local, state and federal agencies, business, academia, clinicians, treatment providers,
counselors, educators, state and national leaders, and advocates impacted by Rx drug

(new) Today is the 21st of 40 legislative days of the 2014 Session. Legislators were scheduled to meet Monday through Thursday this week, to return Feb. 18. However, the schedule was changed in response to the winter storm on track to hit Atlanta, and they will not convene Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday this week. Legislators will return Feb. 17—originally scheduled as a holiday—for legislative day 22. WORKSHOPS/CONFERENCES/WEBINARS… Willowbrooke at Tanner will be hosting a FREE education workshop – Understanding Addiction and the Impact on Families. The seminar will be held on Feb. 20 from 8:30-4:00pm at Georgia Highlands College Cartersville Campus. The program will help teachers, counselors, clergy and families understand the addiction process, beginning with a review of some of the common drugs of choice and new drugs directed at adolescents. The seminar also will utilize visual graphics to show brain chemistry changes, video clips to provide illustrations of addition and family dynamics, and encourage open dialogue with the attendees. (new) Anger Management for Teenagers hosted by The Younger Years and Beyond will be offered Saturday, Feb. 15, March 1, and March 8 from noon to 2:00 am at the Georgia Peer Support Network in Atlanta. The workshop is designed for teens and is based on the Just Act Right Anger Management Program. A major focus of the workshop is for teens to gain the understanding that anger is a normal human emotion but becoming angry is a choice. The goal of the workshop is to empower the participants to have emotional control in response to their experiences and to appropriately communicate and express anger.
